Activity 5:

in the first 2 paragraphs, the author describes the scene and setting for the novel. The author also brings in Winston, who is the main character of the novel. as Winston enters, he notices posters displaying a very significant idea, "DOWN WITH BIG BROTHER." This idea will most probably prevail throughout the novel, either through Winston's expressions or through some other characters who might be introduced later into the story. The setting resembles a society similar to a totalitarian government with Big Brother as the supreme head. Rebellious ideas always seem to lurk in societies where people have minimum authority. The darkness and gloominess will most probably remain as it associates with the oppression that the people face. Government surveillance and total control over the people will prevail throughout, since the setting is in a society where people can have no subversive ideas against the government.
