Activity 2-
I think that the possibility of this scenario taking place in the United States is moderate. The government of the United States does not explicitly violate the rights of the people and functions as a democracy. Regardless of the provision of rights, the government implicitly keeps a tab on communication services and social media. Although the government does make efforts to maintain control, it does provide people with rights and does not undermine their privacy. If this happened, then I would not reduce social media and communication usage. I would not be concerned about my privacy. The government is highly equipped with technology which allows them track the daily activities of people without their knowledge. I wouldn't have anything to hide, so it would not be a concern for me. If I was contacted by an FBI agent, I would be confused and scared at first, and then I wouldn't be influenced by the encounter. I would try to help the FBI track down any suspects if they required it of me. It would not have a serious impact on my life. I would consider this as a form of orwellian where the govenrment controls the lives of its citizens, however, only for security reasons, not with ideologies that deviate from democratic ideals, such as communism or totalitarianism.
Partner response:
ReplyDeleteIf the FBI contacted her, then she would be surprised. It would not change her life in any way because she would not have done anything wrong. She would answer any questions and would help the FBI. She would not change her communication habits, but would be more cautious. She would not be too concerned about her privacy because she would have nothing to hide. She does think this is possible and is a state of Orwellian because the government is intruding one’s privacy.
